The Pre-K and Early Childhood classes took a field trip to Braeutigam’s Orchards to pick apples yesterday! They had so much fun feeding the animals, playing in the Farm Yard, riding the tractor to the apple trees, and tasting the yummy homemade cider! We can’t wait to make applesauce in class with all of the apples we picked! 🍎🚜🐐🐮🐷🐰🦃🍏

Junior High students Reid Brueggemann & Addison McCallister nominated their grandfathers for the Greater St. Louis Honor Flight to Washington DC this year and they were chosen to attend today, September 12th. John Hepworth & Vernon Welter, the students grandfathers, will be taking a day trip to DC to see all of the memorials that honor them and their sacrifices. Junior High students wrote letters to the veterans to be included during "Mail Call" when the veterans receive letters on their way back to St. Louis.

Last week 8th Graders in Mrs. Berry's class did an affirmation activity where they wrote annonymous positive comments about their classmates using cardstock attached to their backs.
Last week, 7th Graders in Mrs. Berry's Social Studies classes learned about proper American Flag etiquitte and how to properly fold our flag.
6th Grade had French Toast on Friday to reinforce the idea of the mid-ocean ridge (the griddle) and deep ocean trenches (hungry students) as they finish up a chapter on Plate Tectonics in Science class.
Thank you families for making our two Grandparents Days a success! Our students were thrilled to have their grandparents or special friends join them for lunch and little book fair shopping. We appreciate all you do for your kiddos!

Below is the link to our Teamwork Tuesday online apparel store. This is a fundraiser for our Character Council. Character Council is a student leadership group that works to promote the good character of all students at Smithton Elementary in order to boost school climate and therefore, make our school a more effective place to learn.
Faculty, staff, and students wear their these shirts every Tuesday to promote teamwork.
The Teamwork Tuesday online store will be open until Monday, September 18th. Orders will then be delivered to school and distributed.

The Smithton School Student of the Month for September 2023 is Blase Gilbreth. Blase was chosen for this award by the faculty and administration of the school. The award was presented to Blase for displaying a good work ethic, outstanding character, and good behavior. Blase also shows respect, leadership, willingness to help her peers, and kindness to others. Blase will receive a plaque and a gift card from the school.
Blase is the son of Anthony and Angela Gilbreth. He likes bowling, running and occasionally gaming friends. Blase would love to get a dog soon.
