Last week in STEM...3rd Grade measured how many drops of water fit on a button and 7th grade built lego amusement rides.
While studying Ancient Greece, Mrs Runyon's 6th graders heard from Mr. Ed Cockrell, a former paralympic competitor. Among many other competitions, Mr. Cockrell competed in the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Greece, where he placed 2nd and received a silver medal in the shot put. Mr. Cockrell added some depth to the topic of Ancient Greece and the Olympics for the students.
Next Tuesday PACK the GYM with PURPLE at the Smithton Volleyball game against Waterloo to support Waterloo student, Elsa Wiemerslage.

SMITHTON C.C.S.D. #130 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
Smithton School has 2025-2026 Kindergarten registration packets available in the main office. To qualify for Kindergarten, students must turn five years of age on or before September 1, 2025. Families may complete the packets and will be asked to return them to the school office by May 1st. All incoming Kindergarten students will be screened on Wednesday, May 21 and Thursday, May 22. Screening appointments for Wednesday, May 21 (8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and Thursday, May 22 (8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) will be set up by the school secretaries upon receipt of the student’s registration packet by May 1st.
Kindergarten screening involves assessing students in the following areas: vision, hearing, speech, language skills, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and cognitive skills. The screening takes about 45 minutes.
